SpartanNash, one of the largest food distributors in the U.S., is headquartered in Byron Township. It has decided to stay in the state and expand its hiring, thanks in part to a state incentive, according to The Right Place, a regional economic development nonprofit. The package retains 620 existing jobs, adds 72 new jobs and stays flexible enough to add 300 more.

The incentive package was granted through the Michigan Economic Development Corp. and its Michigan Strategic Fund, and includes milestones for investment and created jobs.

The Fortune 500 company was formed in July from the merger of Spartan Stores and the Nash Finch Company. The company website says it is the largest food distributor serving military commissaries and exchanges in the U.S., in terms of revenue. Its core businesses also include independent and corporate-owned retail stores located in 44 states and the District of Columbia, Europe, Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Azores, Bahrain and Egypt. It operates 177 retail stores, under various brand names.
