Rivian Automotive creating 170 jobs at new Dearborn facility

DEARBORN, Mich. — Rivian Automotive plans to invest nearly $30 million and create more than 170 jobs in Dearborn. The developer of lightweight and efficient vehicles is opening a design and engineering center. The new facility will be in addition to Rivian’s operations in Livonia and Florida.

Rivian selected Dearborn based on the density of automotive designers and engineers, proximity to the automotive supply base and attractive business climate. Michigan is at the forefront of innovation in automotive design and manufacturing, and Rivian wants to contribute to insuring the state’s auto industry remains competitive.

According to its website, Rivian Automotive was formed in 2009 to create a vehicle experience unlike any other. Starting with a clean sheet and following a system-level approach, it is designing an automotive ecosystem to provide incredible customer experiences with entirely new economics.
